Colombo Stock Exchange Records Modest Gains

All stock price indices on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) posted gains today, with the benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) climbing by 44.90 points to close at 15,961.59 — a relative increase of 0.28%.
The day's total turnover stood at Rs. 1.5 billion, reflecting active investor participation despite a shortened trading session.
In light of the local government elections taking place today, the CSE adjusted its trading hours, closing at 12:30 PM instead of the usual 2:30 PM. This move was made to facilitate the convenience of market participants, including investors, employees, and other stakeholders involved in both the financial markets and the electoral process.
The CSE usually operates from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM on trading days. However, this special schedule underscores the exchange’s responsiveness to national events and its commitment to ensuring smooth market operations while respecting civic responsibilities.
Market analysts noted that the positive sentiment despite the shortened session indicates continued investor confidence, though trading activity may return to normal levels once the election period concludes
