World Bank President Ajay Banga to visit Sri Lanka tomorrow (7)

The visit underscores the World Bank’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka during a pivotal period in its economic recovery.
President Banga’s visit follows an invitation extended by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during a congratulatory call after his appointment in November 2024. The trip reaffirms the longstanding partnership between the World Bank and Sri Lanka, a relationship that has spanned more than 70 years.
During his stay, Mr. Banga is scheduled to meet with President Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and key figures from both the public and private sectors. Discussions will focus on fostering job creation, encouraging private investment, and building a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economic future for Sri Lanka.
The visit comes at a critical juncture, as the nation works to stabilize its economy and lay the foundation for long-term growth. Mr. Banga’s engagements aim to reinforce collaborative efforts to address economic challenges and explore new avenues for development and innovation.
The World Bank’s support is expected to play a vital role in Sri Lanka’s transformation toward a private sector-led recovery, ensuring that progress benefits all segments of society.
