Peraon Injured in Police Shooting in Katunayake

According to the Police Spokesman's Office, the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when officers responded to reports of an individual behaving in a disorderly manner. Upon arriving at the scene, police attempted to apprehend the suspect, who allegedly attempted to attack one of the officers with a sharp weapon.

In what authorities have described as an act of self-defence, officers reportedly fired at the suspect, injuring him below the knee.

The injured individual was promptly admitted to the Wijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Hospital in Seeduwa for medical treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Seeduwa Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are continuing further inquiries.
