New Zealand U85kg team beat Sri Lanka Tuskers 50-10 in Kandy

In a highly-anticipated encounter, the visitors showcased their superior skill and fitness, especially after adapting to the local conditions. Despite a strong start by the Tuskers, led by captain Nigel Ratwatte, New Zealand quickly gained momentum and broke through with a series of tries.
Sri Lanka’s only try of the first half came from No. 8 Dahan Wickramarachchi, successfully converted by Ratwatte. However, the Kiwis responded with back-to-back converted tries and entered halftime with a commanding 26-7 lead.
The second half saw Ratwatte narrowing the gap with a penalty, but hopes of a Sri Lankan comeback were dashed as the New Zealanders continued their onslaught, adding four more tries and sealing a comprehensive victory.
Although the Tuskers showed glimpses of promise, particularly in the opening phases of each half, their inability to finish scoring opportunities proved costly.
The teams now head to Colombo for the tour finale at the Racecourse Grounds on May 10. The winner of the series will lift the prestigious Sir Graham Henry Trophy. This tour also marks the first visit by a New Zealand rugby team to Sri Lanka since 1955.
