Four Sabaragamuwa university students arrested by CID

The arrests come as part of an ongoing investigation into what authorities believe may be a fatal case of ragging. The student, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was found dead under suspicious circumstances last week, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and university authorities.
According to police sources, initial findings point to a possible link between the victim’s death and a violent ragging incident. The CID was called in to take over the investigation due to the sensitive nature of the case and the growing public concern.
University officials have expressed deep sorrow over the incident and have pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. A senior university representative stated that measures are being reviewed to strengthen anti-ragging policies and ensure student safety on campus.
The arrested students are currently being held for questioning, and further legal action will be determined based on the outcomes of the investigation.
This incident has sparked renewed calls from student unions and civil society groups to take stronger action against ragging in Sri Lankan universities.
