
EC Reports 3,998 Complaints Including 26 Violent Incidents

The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has received a total of 3,998 complaints related to the ongoing election process between March 20 and May 1, 2025, according to a media release issued by Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Rathnayake.
Among these, 26 complaints have been identified as incidents involving election-related violence. The Commission noted that within the 24-hour period ending on May 1 alone, 170 complaints were lodged, including two violent incidents.
The Election Commission has called for political parties, candidates, and supporters to maintain discipline and adhere to democratic principles as the election process continues. Authorities have pledged swift action in response to any violations of election laws and to ensure a peaceful and fair election environment.
The Election Commission is continuing to monitor the situation closely and has urged the public to report any irregularities.
