Gold and silver items that once belonged to civilians and were in the possession of the LTTE during the civil conflict have been officially handed over to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the Army Headquarters in Battaramulla.

Recovered Civilian Gold and Silver Handed Over by Army for Valuation and Returnhe Sri Lanka Army, which recovered the valuables in the aftermath of the conflict, stated that the items would now be transferred to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka through the National Gem and Jewellery Authority for valuation.

Military officials emphasized that steps are being taken to identify and return the recovered items to their rightful civilian owners. The process will involve verification of ownership, and authorities have called on individuals who lost valuables during the war to come forward with appropriate documentation.

“This is a significant step in restoring trust and delivering justice to those who suffered losses during the conflict,” an army spokesperson said.

The initiative forms part of broader post-war reconciliation and restitution efforts by the government and the armed forces.
