A statement issued by the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training regarding the sudden death of a second-year student at the Faculty of Technology, Sabaragamuwa University:

A board of inquiry has already been appointed to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a second-year student of the Faculty of Technology at Sabaragamuwa University. Once the report of the inquiry board is received, all necessary actions in this regard will be taken by the university administration and the University Grants Commission.

The Ministry has also taken serious note of the information circulating on various social media platforms suggesting that this sudden death was caused by ragging. If such an incident is revealed, the Ministry will take the maximum possible legal action against all responsible parties, in accordance with the prevailing laws.

Attention is also drawn to the dissemination of personal information of various individuals on social media, claiming their involvement in this incident. The Ministry kindly requests the public to refrain from sharing such information, which may violate the privacy of individuals, until proper facts are uncovered through the ongoing police investigations and other internal inquiries.

The Ministry expresses its deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased student.
