The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), where winds from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres converge, is currently influencing weather patterns across the island, bringing increased rainfall and atmospheric instability.

According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers are expected this afternoon or evening in several areas, particularly across the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, and Eastern provinces. Some locations may experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm.

Isolated showers or thundershowers are also likely in other parts of the country during the afternoon or night, while morning showers are expected in the Western Province and the Galle and Matara districts.

Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and take necessary safety measures against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Additionally, misty conditions are forecast during the morning hours in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, potentially affecting visibility and trave.
