Police Inspector Ashoka Ariyawansa, a long-serving member of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe's personal security team, has been transferred to the Kankesanthurai Police Division with immediate effect. The sudden reassignment follows an incident involving a phone call that has raised serious concerns within law enforcement circles.
According to sources, Inspector Ariyawansa allegedly contacted an officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to facilitate a phone conversation between Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan commonly known as Pillayan and former President Wickremesinghe. Pillayan is currently in CID custody in connection with ongoing investigations.
The Acting Inspector General of Police made the decision to transfer Ariyawansa in response to the incident, which is being viewed as a potential breach of protocol and interference in ongoing criminal investigations.
Inspector Ariyawansa has been regarded as a trusted and long-standing member of Wickremesinghe's security detail.
