Special traffic plan in place for May day parades

In a statement issued by the Police Media Division, authorities confirmed that comprehensive instructions have been given to Senior Deputy Inspector Generals (SDIGs), Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) responsible for provinces, districts, and divisions, respectively. These measures are aimed at maintaining public safety, managing traffic flow, and ensuring road safety during the events.
The police noted that 15 parades and celebrations are scheduled to take place within Colombo city limits alone, in addition to events planned in various outlying provinces.
Motorists have been strongly advised to avoid areas where large gatherings are expected and to utilize alternative routes to minimize delays and congestion. The public is also encouraged to seek assistance from traffic police officers stationed around the city for guidance on alternate pathways.
Police emphasized that these measures are being taken to facilitate peaceful and organized celebrations and to minimize disruption to daily commuting.
