A large-scale clean-up operation was successfully carried out at the iconic Kandy Lake following the conclusion of the ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’, a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

The initiative, led by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy, aimed to restore the lake to its natural beauty after the influx of pilgrims and visitors during the religious event.

During the clean-up, teams removed significant amounts of plastic bottles, packaging materials, and other waste that had been improperly discarded into the lake. Organizers reported that the operation not only enhanced the visual appeal of the historic site but also helped protect its delicate ecosystem.

Officials from both the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat and the Navy emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness, particularly around culturally and environmentally significant sites such as the Kandy Lake.

The clean-up effort has been widely appreciated by the local community and religious leaders, who called for continued environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal, especially during large public gatherings.
