Suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon and the owner of the vehicle used to escort him from the courthouse have been ordered to appear before the Matara Magistrate's Court on April 25.
The order was issued by the Matara Magistrate today following a motion filed by the Attorney General. The motion alleged that Tennakoon had violated court directives while exiting the court premises after being granted bail on April 10.
According to reports, Tennakoon left the court complex in a manner that breached the conditions set by the court. The Attorney General’s Department brought this to the Magistrate’s attention, prompting the new summons.
The incident has sparked renewed scrutiny around the high-profile case and the conduct of law enforcement officials under judicial proceedings.
