Search operations are continuing following the distress incident involving a Sri Lanka Navy Fast Attack Craft off Angulana on August 15, with efforts also underway to salvage the distressed vessel.
The Navy said 11 naval personnel were rescued after the craft encountered distress at around 11:40 a.m. while returning from a routine patrol. The rescued personnel were taken to hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The Navy, supported by the Sri Lanka Air Force and members of the local fishing community, has continued operations in the area following the incident. The local community played an important role in assisting with the rescue of the naval personnel.
A salvage operation for the distressed naval craft is scheduled to be carried out today. However, rough sea conditions are expected to make the operation challenging, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.
The Navy has not yet confirmed the exact cause of the incident, and further investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the distress.
