Litro Gas Lanka has taken steps to restore normal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies across Sri Lanka and ensure uninterrupted distribution amid growing market demand, according to company sources.
A vessel named FRANCOIS, carrying approximately 3,000 metric tonnes of LPG, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (October 27). Unloading operations began on the same day to strengthen the country's LPG supply.
From October 23 to October 27, Litro released between 90,000 and 100,000 domestic 12.5 kg LPG cylinders to the market daily. This exceeds the country's estimated daily requirement of approximately 74,000 cylinders.
The company is expected to maintain this increased supply over the coming days to meet market demand. Litro is currently working to distribute around 100,000 cylinders daily.
Another vessel carrying approximately 3,900 metric tonnes of LPG is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on Saturday, October 31, further strengthening the country's supply.
Meanwhile, the disruption to the supply network of LAUGFS Gas has contributed to the increased demand for Litro LPG, placing additional pressure on the market. The government is intervening to address the situation.
Under normal circumstances, Litro supplies approximately 1,150 metric tonnes of LPG to the market daily. However, following the disruption to LAUGFS Gas supplies, demand for Litro LPG has increased to around 1,650 metric tonnes per day—an increase of approximately 500 metric tonnes.
This surge in demand has contributed to the current tightness in the country's LPG market.
Despite the increased demand, Litro sources say the company is continuing to take all necessary measures to restore normal market conditions as quickly as possible and maintain an uninterrupted supply of gas across the island.
