Sri Lanka's expressways saw a significant boost in revenue during the recent Sinhala and Tamil New Year period, generating an impressive Rs. 462 million in income over just 10 days.
According to Deputy Director General of the Expressway Operations, Maintenance and Management Division, R.A.D. Kahatapitiya, this figure marks a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. The income was recorded between April 10 and April 19.
Mr.Kahatapitiya also revealed that around 1.3 million vehicles used the expressway network during this time, highlighting a surge in travel as people journeyed across the country to celebrate the New Year with their families.
Authorities attribute the increase in revenue and traffic volume to improved road infrastructure, efficient toll collection systems, and the public's growing reliance on expressways for safer and faster travel.
