The sacred city of Kandy continues to draw tens of thousands of devotees as the "Siri Dalada Vandana" enters its fourth day today (21). From 12.00 noon to 5.30 pm, the public will once again have the rare opportunity to pay homage to the sacred Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
This spiritual event, which began on April 18, is set to continue until April 27, allowing worshippers from across the country and abroad to witness the revered relic. On the opening day, devotees were able to see the sacred Tooth Relic directly—an opportunity that has drawn significant crowds ever since.
According to Central Province Deputy Inspector General of Police Sudath Masinghe, nearly 300,000 devotees have participated in the pilgrimage over the first three days. Long queues continue to form at the three main entrance routes to the temple: from D.S. Senanayake Street, via Sangharaja Mawatha, and via Maligawa Place.
In response to the massive turnout, authorities have taken steps to improve public amenities, including enhanced access to food, sanitation, and health services. Special facilities have also been arranged for elderly worshippers and people with disabilities, under the direction of Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
The Maha Sangha has requested all visitors to wear white attire and maintain the cleanliness of the sacred city. Foreign tourists are also seen among the throngs of pilgrims, reflecting the global reverence for this spiritual event.
To accommodate the large number of visitors, special train and bus services are running today, ensuring smooth transportation to and from the Sri Dalada Maligawa premises.
A 24-hour health surveillance team has been deployed to ensure the safety of devotees attending the "Siri Dalada Vandana," Regional Health Services Director Dr. Senaka Thalagala announced.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Thalagala stated that the team was appointed to provide round-the-clock medical support during the event. On-site treatment will be available whenever necessary to address any health emergencies among attendees.
As the "Siri Dalada Vandana" continues, the city of Kandy stands united in devotion, discipline, and peace, welcoming all those who come to pay their respects to the sacred Tooth Relic.
