The public is urged to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning, which may accompany thundershowers.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating that showers or thundershowers will occur in several parts of the island, particularly during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy rainfall, around 75 mm, is expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in Hambantota, Ampara, and Polonnaruwa districts. Morning showers are also likely in the Western and Northern provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, and Puttalam districts.

Additionally, misty conditions can be expected in the morning in areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, and in the Ampara district.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

 

 

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be (25-35)kmph.  Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via  Mannar.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending fromPuttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate. 

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
