Road traffic fatalities have seen a slight decrease this year, according to the latest data released by the police. A total of 713 individuals have lost their lives in road accidents so far this year, a reduction from the 744 deaths recorded during the same period last year.
The 713 fatalities resulted from 685 serious accidents, down from last year’s 713 fatal accidents — marking a decline of 31 fatal incidents.
The festive season continues to be a particularly dangerous time on the roads. During the most recent holiday period, 105 people were killed in 103 fatal accidents. Although the number remains high, it reflects a slight improvement from last year’s festive season, which saw 128 deaths from 126 fatal accidents.
Overall, police reported 934 road accidents during this year’s festive period — a reduction of 23 accidents compared to the 957 accidents recorded during the same time last year.
Authorities have urged motorists to continue exercising caution, especially during high-travel periods. Police emphasized the importance of road safety awareness and responsible driving behavior as key factors in reducing road traffic deaths and injuries.
