Railway Department has announced a series of special train services to facilitate the movement of passengers across the island. Railway General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara confirmed that these services will begin on April 11, with seat reservations now available through the online system for trains offering this facility.
Among the special services is the "New Year Special Night Mail Train," which will operate between Colombo Fort and Badulla, departing at 7:30 PM on April 11, 12, 19, and 20. A return service from Badulla to Colombo Fort will also be available on the same dates, providing convenient travel options for those heading to the central hill country.
Additionally, a train service from Galle to Anuradhapura is scheduled for April 12 and 13, with departures from Galle at 4:00 AM. On those dates, a train from Colombo Fort to Galle will also operate at 3:00 PM, offering flexibility for travelers heading towards the Southern and Western regions.
A special train service from Galle to Colombo Fort will also run on April 11, 12, 16, and 21, departing Galle at 6:10 AM, ensuring smooth transit for passengers traveling to the capital.
In addition to these services, there will be special trains operating from Colombo Fort to Kankesanthurai and Beliatta, ensuring connectivity for those traveling to the Northern and Southern regions during the festive period.
Passengers are encouraged to make reservations early through the online system to secure their seats for these special services during the peak holiday season. The Railway Department assures that all efforts will be made to provide a comfortable and efficient service during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.
