Former MP Wimal Weerawansa has been summoned as part of an ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, connected to Basil Rajapaksa's alleged financial dealings.

During his visit to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Weerawansa confirmed that he had provided written information regarding his earlier statements, which reportedly included details about Basil Rajapaksa’s properties in the United States.

Former MP Udaya Gammanpila also appeared at the CID as a lawyer during the proceedings. In a statement to the media, Weerawansa revealed that the documents submitted covered only a limited scope of Rajapaksa’s assets, primarily focusing on his U.S. properties. He further suggested that if the government was truly committed to addressing corruption, it could quickly obtain further details about the remaining properties in the U.S. with minimal effort.

Weerawansa stressed that the fight against significant corruption should be rooted in genuine efforts, rather than symbolic or superficial actions. He called on the government to thoroughly investigate the full extent of Basil Rajapaksa's assets to demonstrate its serious commitment to combating corruption in Sri Lanka.

The investigation, which is still in its early stages, has sparked considerable public interest, with many calling for greater transparency and accountability from the Rajapaksa family amidst allegations of financial misconduct.
