Former Director of the Colombo Crimes Division and Assistant Superintendent of Police Neville de Silva has been granted bail after being arrested and remanded in custody. Ratnapura Magistrate Saman D. K. Baranaliyanage set the bail at Rs. 50,000, with three sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.
In addition to the bail conditions, the court ordered that all gang robberies in Colombo be reported to the Crime Branch between 9 am and 12 noon on the last Sunday of each month. The case, which involves the controversial handover of a stock of property, including gems and vehicles, to a complainant following a report filed with the Colombo Crimes Division, is set to be heard again on January 31st.
The arrest has drawn significant attention, with ongoing speculation surrounding the involvement of senior law enforcement officials in the matter.
