Former Western Provincial Councilor Salochana Gamage was arrested by the Bribery Commission today in connection with an alleged Rs. 9 million bribery case. The two suspects were apprehended while reportedly receiving the bribe from a businessman at a restaurant in Pita Kotte.

According to the Bribery Commission, the bribe was allegedly offered to the suspects in exchange for expediting the payment of compensation for a plot of land that had been seized by the Urban Development Authority (UDA). The land, which belonged to a relative of the complainant, was reportedly the subject of ongoing compensation procedures.

The suspects are accused of using their influence to accelerate the compensation process, a move that led to the alleged bribery. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter as the duo remains in custody.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Bribery Commission to combat corruption and uphold transparency within government and business dealings.
