President met with Mr. Marc-André Franche, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, at the Presidential Secretariat.
During this meeting, Mr. Franche commended the ethical nature of the recent presidential election campaign and also appreciated the election policy statement. He conveyed the best wishes of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to the President
He highlighted that public expectations are at a high level, indicating that the upcoming period will be challenging. He assured that the United Nations would provide support to Sri Lanka's program with the International Monetary Fund and the efforts to eradicate poverty.
In addition, Mr. Franche praised the anti-corruption measures outlined in the election policy statement, stating that the United Nations would provide both technical and financial assistance for these initiatives. He further appreciated the significant steps taken by Sri Lanka’s new government towards national peace, and emphasized the UN's full support for promoting sustainable peace in the country.
