The Public Health Inspectors’ (PHI) Union has decided to suspend all dengue control duties across Sri Lanka from today (20), in protest against the transfer of a senior health official attached to the Bandaranaike International Airport Health Office.
PHI Union General Secretary Chamil Muthukuda said the decision was taken by the union’s executive committee at a meeting held last night (19).
The union is protesting what it describes as the arbitrary transfer of the senior-most Medical Officer of Health at the airport health office.
Mr.Muthukuda said the union has also decided to launch an island-wide token strike tomorrow (21) in protest against the transfer.
The union has called for the authorities to reconsider the transfer, warning that its industrial action will continue unless its concerns are addressed.
