In response to the postponed local government polling and the resulting incomplete polling process, the Election Commission (EC) has confirmed the continued enforcement of the election law.
According to a recent statement by the EC, political parties, groups, and candidates are prohibited from engaging in promotional activities while the local government election law remains active. Additionally, the use of state property for election purposes is strictly forbidden.
"The election law continues to be in force across the country due to the postponement and incomplete polling of local authorities," the EC emphasized, referencing Article 104A of the Constitution.
The EC also noted that all heads of government institutions have been informed of the prohibition on the use of state property for election-related activities through a special gazette and circular (Gazette No. 2313/32 and Circular No. 20 dated January 5, 2023).
"The directives outlined in Gazette No. 2313/32 and Circular No. 20 remain applicable," the EC asserted. The Commission stressed that any violation of the election laws during this period would be subject to legal penalties.
