Minister Bandula Gunawardana, acting as the Cabinet spokesman, announced today that the Cabinet has granted approval to commence preparations for transforming Hingurakgoda airport into a fully-fledged facility. Currently operated by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), the decision aims to align the airport with international civil aviation standards.

In his address to the media, Minister Gunawardana emphasized the identified need for development, highlighting the establishment of a committee tasked with preparing a comprehensive master plan for the airport. 

This committee includes representatives from key stakeholders such as the Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority, Airports and Aviation Company (Sri Lanka) (Pvt.) Ltd, and the Road Development Authority.
