Vice Foreign Minister of China, Sun Weidong, and Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Aruni Yasodha Wijewardane, convened the 13th round of China-Sri Lanka diplomatic consultations in Beijing, reaffirming the strong and enduring ties between the two nations.
During the consultations, both sides highlighted the long-standing friendship and mutual respect that have defined China-Sri Lanka relations over the past 67 years. Emphasizing their history of equality and mutual benefit, the diplomats praised the steady development of their bilateral relations, which have become a model of friendly coexistence and cooperation between countries of different sizes.
Under the strategic guidance and personal commitment of their leaders, China and Sri Lanka have made significant progress in practical cooperation across various fields. The two sides pledged to continue leveraging departmental and local exchange mechanisms to implement the important common understandings reached by their leaders. They also committed to upholding the spirit of the Rubber-Rice Pact, which symbolizes independence, self-reliance, unity, and mutual support, to further strengthen their strategic cooperative partnership.
In addition to bilateral matters, the discussions also covered international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern, reinforcing the comprehensive nature of their diplomatic engagement.
