National People’s Power (NPP) Leader, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has called on Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to provide a clear response regarding his participation in a public debate.

The much-anticipated debate between the opposition leaders has been a topic of public interest.

Responding to journalists' questions, Dissanayake emphasized that the responsibility for the debate's occurrence lies with Premadasa.

"He had proposed several dates, and I have communicated the possible dates. The decision to participate in the debate is with him," Dissanayake stated.

The NPP Leader remarked that the controversy surrounding the debate stems from the involvement of party leaders. "The economic committees of parties frequently face each other during televised debates otherwise," he noted.

Dissanayake also highlighted the futility of debating economic policies when the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s (SJB) economic policy remains unclear. "A document presented by their economic committee has been rejected by Nalaka Godahewa, one of Sajith Premadasa’s economic advisors. So, what we need to see from Sajith Premadasa, first of all, is what their true stance on the economy is," Dissanayake asserted.
