The prices of vegetables in local markets have surged once again, driven by the prevailing adverse weather conditions. Reports indicate that heavy rains have damaged vegetable crops, leading to significant price hikes.
Ajith Kalutharage, President of the Manning Market Traders’ Association, warned that if these weather conditions persist, consumers could face even higher prices for vegetables in the near future.
In addition to vegetable prices, fish prices have also seen a rapid increase. Jayasiri Wickramaarachchi, President of the Peliyagoda Central Fish Market Traders’ Association, stated that bad weather has prevented fishermen from going out to sea, causing a reduction in supply and consequent rise in fish prices.
