Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports fell by 4.1% year-over-year to $813.81 million in April 2024, according to the Export Development Board.
The total value of goods exported from January to April 2024 amounted to $3,982.71 million, marking a 3.55% decrease compared to the same period last year.
However, service exports showed significant growth, increasing by 19.28% in April to $300.41 million. This boost in services helped raise the overall exports of goods and services by 1.25% to $1,114.22 million.
Among traditional hard goods exports, tea exports rose by 2.22% to $95.46 million, rubber-based products surged by 20.18% to $66.58 million, and coconut-based products increased by 17.73% to $60.76 million.
Other notable increases included ornamental fish exports, which jumped 30.66% to $2.77 million, and processed food and beverages, which grew by 7.55% to $32.35 million.
On the downside, apparel exports declined by 6.34% to $321.06 million, and spices and concentrates fell by 14.47% to $18.03 million.
