A Fundamental Rights petition has been filled in the Supreme Court aiming to halt Deshabandu Tennakoon's tenure as the Inspector General of Police.

The Anti-Corruption Movement, associated with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), initiated this petition, urging the court to declare Deshabandu Tennakoon unsuitable for any public office, including within the Sri Lanka Police Force.

Niroshan Padukka, Convener of the Anti-Corruption Movement, and Committee Member Ananda Palitha filed the petition, citing Deshabandu Tennakoon, members of the Constitutional Council, members of the National Police Commission, and the Attorney General as respondents.

The petitioners argue that President's appointment of Deshabandu Tennakoon as IGP on February 27 violates the rule of law and breaches constitutional provisions.
