Water supply has been temporarily suspended in several areas of Colombo and Gampaha districts following an emergency situation that may have affected water quality near the Kelani River intake.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) said the suspension took effect early today (25) at the Ambatale and Kelani South Bank water treatment plants, which supply water to several areas in the two districts.

The decision was taken following a notification from the Disaster Management Centre regarding an emergency situation near the Kelani River water intake that could affect the quality of the water.

Authorities are currently conducting necessary investigations and taking appropriate measures to assess and address the situation. The NWSDB said further information would be provided regarding the restoration of the water supply.

The temporary suspension has been implemented as a precautionary measure to protect the health and safety of consumers.
