Sri Lanka has garnered favor as one of the top destinations for Russian tourists, according to Levan S. Dzhagaryan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka.
During a courtesy call on Dzhagaryan, Chamber of Tourism and Industries (CTISL) President A.U.M. Jaufar was informed that an estimated 200,000 Russian tourists are expected to visit Sri Lanka in 2024, with plans to enhance air connectivity.
The discussion, attended by CTISL representative for the Middle East and Europe, Dr. M. Inamullah, and National Organizer Donald Rajapsksha, touched upon the growing relationship between the two nations. Sri Lanka has already welcomed 181,997 Russian tourists up to December 17 of the current year.
Deputy Head of Mission Alexander Dyagilev and Second Secretary Galina Kuklina also participated in the talks, which extended beyond tourism promotion. The conversation delved into strategies for attracting foreign direct investments to Sri Lanka's hospitality industry. CTISL President Jaufar expressed the organization's proposals, and Dyagilev assured that the embassy would provide assistance within the mission's purview to coordinate with relevant Federal Russian authorities. The strengthening ties aim to bolster tourism and foster economic collaboration between Russia and Sri Lanka.
