A week-long island-wide operation launched on Sunday to crack down on drug traffickers and organized criminals resulted in the arrest of an additional 2,166 suspects, including 88 females, yesterday, the Public Security Ministry said..
During the 24-hour period ending at 12:30 am today, the police executed 2,210 raids, leading to the arrest of 2,166 individuals. Notably, over 800 arrests were made in the Western Province alone.
Of the apprehended suspects, 66 are under investigation with detention orders, while 169 are on the IRC list of the Police Narcotics Bureau. Additionally, asset investigations have been initiated for 14 suspects, and 226 individuals have been referred for rehabilitation.
The police reported the seizure of 1,370 grams of heroin, 7 kilograms of cannabis, 556 grams of Ice drugs, 3.5 kilograms of Mawa, and 1,075 narcotic pills during this period.
The island-wide special operation, spanning 45 police divisions, was launched at 4 a.m. on Sunday and will continue until December 23. Aimed at combating drug trafficking and organized crime, the initiative involves coordinated efforts from the Police, Special Task Force (STF), and the armed forces.
On Sunday alone, the police arrested a total of 2,121 suspects in 2,159 raids.
