Two school students in Kandy have been arrested by the police in connection with a disturbing incident involving the sexual assault of several schoolgirls and young women.
Police said the perpetrators allegedly filmed these heinous acts and distributed the explicit content on the internet.
The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by a 15-year-old schoolgirl and her mother to the Children's and Women's Bureau of the Kandy Police. Investigations into the matter unveiled that the victimized schoolgirl had been in a romantic relationship with one of the accused students. Tragically, it was discovered that the student had sexually assaulted her multiple times within the confines of the student's residence during their relationship.
Subsequently, the relationship ended, and the other student initiated contact with the victim by forwarding text messages. Another romantic relationship ensued, leading to an incident where the victim was taken to a lodge in Kandy. The victim reported being drugged and having no recollection of the events that transpired thereafter. Shockingly, the suspect allegedly stripped, filmed explicit scenes, repeatedly showed the footage to the victim, and issued threats before subjecting the victim to sexual assault.
Further investigations uncovered that the suspect distributed the recorded footage to the internet and shared it with friends. It was revealed that the victim's initial boyfriend provided support for these heinous actions.
Further investigations revealed that numerous explicit videos featuring other students and young women on the mobile phone of one of the arrested students.
The police have taken action against the lodge where the sexual assault occurred, detaining both the owner and manager. Following their court appearance, they have been remanded until the 22nd of this month.
The two arrested school students have also been remanded until January 1st, after being produced in the Kandy Court.
