A total of 2,121 suspects were arrested in the past 24 hours during island-wide operations initiated yesterday.

Police reported the seizure of 2kg and 232g of heroin, 178kg of cannabis, 769g of Ice drugs, 35kg of Ash, 626g of Mawa, 30,550 cannabis plants, and 3,489 drug pills during this period.

Out of the 2,121 arrested suspects, 12 are under investigation with detention orders, and 116 were on the IRC list of the Police Narcotics Bureau.

Asset investigations have been initiated for 5 suspects, and 133 individuals have been referred for rehabilitation.

The island-wide special operation, launched at 4 a.m. on Sunday under the directives of Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Thennakoon, targets drug trafficking and organized crime. Spanning 45 police divisions across the island, the initiative involves coordinated efforts from the Police, Special Task Force (STF), and armed forces personnel.

Deputy Inspector Generals of Police overseeing all nine provinces are coordinating the extensive operation.
