A group of four individuals attempting to capture unauthorized closeup photos of tusker Agbo with a drone camera were arrested by Thirappane police on Wednesday evening. The drone camera was also seized during the arrest.

Tusker Agbo, previously treated for gunshot injuries on one of its limbs by Wildlife Department surgeons, has been released and is now a regular visitor to the Thirappane area.

The suspects, hailing from Kumbukwewa in Maho, Meethotumulla, Kurundankulama in Anuradhapura, and Buthpitiya South in Gampaha, were arrested after police responded to information from the public and Sri Lanka Air Force intelligence about a suspicious drone in the Thirappane skies.

Investigations revealed that the drone camera belonged to an individual in the Maho area, but the suspects lacked the necessary permissions to use it for photography in the area.

A senior police official said that the Sri Lanka Air Force has initiated an investigation into the foreign-made drone camera.
