Anuradhapura city is witnessing a surge in insecurity among girls, primarily driven by the trafficking of drug pills and capsules, the Ceylon Teachers' Association said.
Recent days have seen the arrest of numerous drug smugglers by the police special task force, specifically targeting those selling drugs and capsules to school children.
Cities like Anuradhapura, situated far from Colombo, are particularly affected, with reports suggesting a higher prevalence of drug addiction and trafficking among school students.
President of the Ceylon Teachers' Association, Priyantha Fernando revealed that female students, compelled by the need to acquire money for purchasing drug pills, have resorted to allowing boys to touch them inappropriately in schools.
