The Railways department has stated that the train services connecting Colombo and Jaffna/Kankesanthurai will be temporarily suspended starting next month.
This decision has been made in order to facilitate crucial maintenance work on the northern railway line, specifically the 2nd phase between Mahawa and Anuradhapura Railway Stations.
According to the railway department, the maintenance work is scheduled to commence on January 7, 2024, and is expected to last for a period of six months. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of this period.
During the maintenance period, train services will only be available between Colombo Fort and Mahawa Railway Station, as well as from Kankesanthurai to Anuradhapura.
This means that passengers traveling between Colombo and Jaffna/Kankesanthurai will need to make alternative arrangements for the next six months
