The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Ministry of Power and Energy are actively conducting investigations to identify the root cause of the unexpected island-wide power outage that occurred yesterday, State Minister Indika Anurudhha said.
Highlighting the circumstances surrounding the incident, the state minister revealed that a significant proportion of power generation was reliant on hydroelectric sources at the time of the blackout. "During the outage, there was a demand for 1500 MW, but only 300 MW was being produced through the Norochcholai plant," he explained.
