Russian Security Council Secretary, Nikolay Patrushev, recently visited Colombo where he met with Sri Lankan President, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen bilateral relations between Russia and Sri Lanka, particularly in the areas of economy and security.
The Russian Security Council stated that the comprehensive discussion between the two countries will contribute to their sustainable development and enhance security.
During his visit, Patrushev also met with Sri Lankan Defence Secretary, Kamal Gunaratne, to discuss cooperation in security and defence. The two officials exchanged views on collaboration between law enforcement agencies, intelligence services, and military departments.
They also focused on improving the legal framework of bilateral relations, as well as regional and international security issues.
In addition to the meetings, joint consultations were held between Russian and Sri Lankan law enforcement and intelligence officials in Colombo.
The discussions highlighted the interest of both sides in exchanging experiences in combating cybercrimes and drug-related crimes.
Representatives from the Russian Interior Ministry, Federal Security Service, Foreign Ministry, and Security Council participated in the consultations, emphasizing the commitment of both countries to addressing these pressing issues
