One of the two giraffes at the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens has died, with the cause suspected to be an allergy, as revealed by National Zoological Gardens Director General Ranjan Marasinghe.
According to Marasinghe's statement to the Daily Mirror, the deceased giraffe had been grappling with an infection on one of its front hoofs over the past week. Tragically, the administration of antibiotics to address the infection may have triggered an allergic reaction, leading to the untimely demise of the animal.
Marasinghe emphasized that the precise cause of death cannot be definitively determined until the postmortem report is received. The zoo authorities await the results of the postmortem examination to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the giraffe's passing.
