Former Chairman of the Central Environment Authority, Supun Pathirage, has filed a fundamental rights petition before the Supreme Court against the Bribery Commission. He alleges that his basic human rights were violated through his arrest and remand without any reasonable cause.
The Bribery or Corruption Allegations Investigation Commission, its chairperson Eva Vanasundara, other commissioners, and its officers have been named as respondents.
The petitioner claims that he received an application to renew a license related to a marine oil refining business and rejected it on 6 technical grounds.
He also states that he was pressured by several parties, including politicians, to renew the license in question.
Later, the petitioner pleaded with the Supreme Court, stating that he had been maliciously arrested by the Bribery Commission. He alleges that he was accused of demanding a bribe of Rs. 10 million for the issuance of the relevant licenses, and that his basic human rights had been violated.
