A Sub-Inspector attached to expressway duties, has died from a gunshot wound to the head, reportedly from his duty firearm at the Peliyagoda Interchange on the Katunayake Expressway.
Police said that the incident is being investigated as a possible suicide.
The unfortunate event unfolded this morning when Sub-Inspector Ruwan Kumara, 54, after completing his duties, arrived at the Peliyagoda Interchange Center. Preliminary reports suggest that he took his own life with his duty firearm, leading to his untimely death.
As investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
