The University of Kelaniya has announced the suspension of four students following an alleged incident of assaulting a security officer.
The university administration made this announcement today, in response to the incident that occurred on Monday.
In light of the incident, the university authorities have decided to close the entire campus, with the exception of the Faculty of Medicine, until further notice.
Besides, all university hostels, excluding those of the Medical Faculty, have been closed. Students have been instructed to vacate their dormitories by 8:00 a.m. today, December 5th.
The decision to close the university and suspend the students was made after a security officer was reportedly abducted and assaulted while sleeping in the break room at night.
According to reports, the officer was later found tied to the entrance gate at the Student Centre. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya stated that this disciplinary action was necessary to restore the peaceful atmosphere that was previously maintained among the students and non-academic staff.
The university administration is determined to take appropriate measures against those responsible for the incident in order to re-establish peace within the university.
Further investigations will be conducted to gather more information about the incident and to ensure that the appropriate disciplinary actions are taken.
