The government is reportedly focused on creating the position of Commissioner General of Police.

The matter is currently under discussion, and a final decision will be made in the future, following communication with Cabinet members.

The role of Commissioner General of Police would be a civilian position established by the President. Despite being a civilian post, the appointee would be tasked with overseeing the administration of the Police Department.

It is anticipated that the former Inspector General of Police, C. D. Wickramaratne, is likely to be appointed to this position.
