The motion to suspend State Minister Diana Gamage along with SJB MPs Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Rohana Bandara for a month was successfully passed in Parliament with a majority of 57 votes. Out of the 58 MPs who voted, one voted against the motion, with TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran dissenting. Notably, two government MPs, Minister Vidura Wickramanayake and Mayadunna Chinthaka Amal, along with Opposition MP A.H.M Fowzie, chose to abstain from voting.

During the proceedings, other Opposition MPs staged a walkout in protest against the decision made by the Privileges Committee, which altered the findings of the special committee appointed by the Speaker to investigate the altercation involving State Minister Gamage and SJB MPs Bandara and Perera. The motion was put to a vote after intense arguments from MPs on both sides.
