India's Outgoing High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr. Gopal Baglay, met with Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Tuesday (28) at the Parliament. 

The Speaker acknowledged India as the first country to extend support to Sri Lanka amid its recent economic challenges, expressing gratitude for the assistance.

In addition, Speaker Abeywardena commended the High Commissioner for fostering cooperation that contributed to the development of Indo-Sri Lanka relations throughout his tenure. During their discussions, the Indian envoy highlighted the special attention Sri Lanka receives from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing India's favorable stance on Sri Lanka's debt restructuring.

The meeting, attended by Parliament's Secretary General, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, underscored the ongoing diplomatic ties between the two nations.
