In a perplexing turn of events, the Gampola Police have launched an investigation after a person, believed to be dead and buried two months ago, reappeared alive.
The incident came to light when the supposedly deceased individual, who had suffered a heart attack at the Gampola bus stand, returned home with his mother and relatives three days after the funeral.
The unidentified body had been stored in the Gampola Hospital mortuary for two months due to the lack of identification. About two months ago, a woman and a group from Merivila Watta in Gampola had claimed the body, asserting that it belonged to Lazar Michael, a 59-year-old son. Following a post-mortem examination, the family performed religious rites and buried the body.
However, the shocking twist occurred when, three days after the funeral, the person presumed dead returned home. The man and his family subsequently visited the Gampola Hospital Coroner Nalin Medawaka to report the unusual incident.
